The Company
Eight decades after Blattner & Co. established a reputation as a railroad contractor, David Henry's grandsons and great-grandsons returned to their roots and began bidding on railroad work once again.
The return to railroad demonstrated D.H. Blattner & Sons' ability to transition expertise to growing markets. Railroads made a roaring comeback in the 1990s, and the company converted its heavy civil competencies from constructing public works to building railroad capacity improvements.
D.H. Blattner & Sons remained dedicated to relationship-based service and formed strong partnerships with several major railroads. The company was one of the first to work on Union Pacific's ambitious triple track program through Nebraska. It also completed 10 separate projects along Union Pacific's high-traffic, 760-mile Sunset Route running between Los Angeles, California, and El Paso, Texas.
Railroad work presented aggressive timelines, daunting logistical challenges and critical shut-down periods. D.H. Blattner & Sons' talented team of individuals dedicated themselves to overcoming these obstacles and delivering client success.
By 2004, D.H. Blattner & Sons had completed 80 projects in 19 different states, building more than 375 miles of new second and third mainline, sidings and yard track. The company also constructed 190 railroad bridges and box culverts, averaging one a month for more than 10 years.
